OLLI is pleased to offer the opportunity to tour American Sampler, a new commissioned exhibition unfolding through three installations over two years in the Vertical Gallery at the University of Michigan Museum of Art.

American Sampler is an immersive exploration of the architecture of American protest, created by acclaimed artist and researcher Julie Ault in collaboration with Julie Herrada, curator of the University of Michigan Library’s Joseph A. LaBadie Collection. The LaBadie Collection is one of the world’s largest archives of political dissent and social movement materials.

OLLI members will have the opportunity to tour each installation as it evolves. The first installation, American Sampler: Activating the Archive, opened January 24, 2026, coinciding with the nation’s 250th anniversary and offering a timely reflection on the role of dissent in shaping American identity.
